Pavement Maintenance

Daily traffic use, water seeping in from rain, oxidation, and the winter freeze-thaw cycles all prematurely crack and age asphalt. If left untreated, this deterioration can lead to costly repairs in the future.

Fort Dodge Asphalt offers an array of asphalt sealing products that extend the life of your pavement and save you money, including:

  • Asphalt Crack Sealing (Rout & Rubber)
  • Crack Cleaning & Filling
  • Slurry Leveling
  • Slurry Strip Sealing
  • Slurry Seal
  • Micro Surfacing

ASPHALT CRACK SEALING (ROUT & RUBBER)

Prevent asphalt from further deterioration by sealing cracks and vulnerable areas in your pavement. Water leads to subbase erosion and worsens the damage from freeze-thaw cycles, causing cracking and spalling. Sealing your cracks before the damage is done is one of the most cost-effective ways to extend the life of your asphalt.

CRACK CLEANING & FILLING

When sealing surface cracks is no longer a viable solution, crack cleaning and filling is recommended to extend the life of asphalt pavement by reducing water intrusion and repairing damage beneath the surface. When damage to asphalt beneath the surface has occurred, filling cracks from the bottom can augment the subbase to slow the deterioration.

SLURRY LEVELING

Have you noticed various dips or depressions in your county roads? These recessed transverse joints are caused by deterioration underneath the pavement’s surface and require both structural and cosmetic correction. With slurry leveling, a mixture of emulsified asphalt, mineral aggregate, water, and cement is used to even out the road again. Slurry leveling is most successful when it follows Clean & Fill.

SLURRY STRIP SEALING

Slurry Strip Sealing is similar to Slurry Leveling, however, it is used to treat longitudinal depressions. Narrow depressions in pavement caused by wheel-tracks and other long-term wear can increase the risk of hydroplaning and snow build-up, putting drivers in danger. Slurry strip sealing will level these longitudinal depressions and centerlines to keep drivers safe.

SLURRY SEAL

A precise mixture of asphalt emulsion, quality aggregates, mineral filler and water is uniformly spread over the existing, properly prepared surface. Most installations are done in 1 lift (a leveling course), and the mixture adheres firmly to the pavement underneath.

MICRO SURFACING

One of the most versatile tools in the pavement preservation toolbox is Micro Surfacing, a mixture of cationic polymer-modified emulsified asphalt, 100% crushed aggregate, water, and other additives, properly proportioned and spread over a prepared surface. The special-purpose polymers and additives used in micro surfacing allow multiple stone thickness applications for projects such as rut filling and highway leveling/resurfacing.
